If you are moving to a new community and schools are part of your search, it’s best to take the bull by the horns and decide which school(s) you would like for your children to attend before you start looking at homes. Not everyone will agree with me however why waste considerable time on a home or neighborhood only to learn that you are not in a district for a school that meets your goals?
One of the best sites to use is the California Department of Education site. From here you can check API scores on schools that you are interested in.
There are a number of commercial sites that have posted “scores” and opinions about various schools that can be helpful. Here are two:
Yes, your real estate broker should have an understanding of the school boundaries and may even know the API score. You are the one to know though if the school has the programs (after school activities, athletics, music etc) that you want.
Once you find one or more schools that will work, then ask your real state broker to set up a search within the boundaries of the school(s).
